Irene Mamiye (b. Marseille, France) is a photography and new media artist working in New York NY. Her work demonstrates both formal and conceptual concerns with our transforming relationship to images in an era of hyper-circulating codification. Most currently, Irene will be joining MASS MoCA’s Studio Residency in early Spring 2020, and her work is on display in an offsite exhibition of print, video, and VR work in a midtown Manhattan converted jewelry store space. Recently, her work was exhibited in Irene Mamiye. Repost, a solo exhibition at Alter Gallery in Shanghai, as well as a part of Harvestworks summer t fall 2019 electronic arts program and the Penumbra Foundations 2019 Resident Artist Series. Her solo exhibition, Irene Mamiye: Homage was held at Lanoue Gallery, Boston in 2018. Selected group exhibitions include: Ultrachrome Plus at Denk Gallery in Los Angeles (2019), # curated by Markus Linnenbrink at Cindy Rucker Gallery in New York (2018), Photography is Magic, curated by Charlotte Cotton at the Aperture Foundation in New York (2016), and Ebb and Flow at Cheryl Hazan Contemporary in New York (2013).

Irene received her MFA in Photography, Video, and Related Media in 2014 from the School of Visual Arts and was a MORPHOS Artist in Residence (2018) and a Transart Academy fellow (2019). She is currently a resident at the Penumbra Foundation Artist Workspace Residency. She will be a resident at the studios at MASS MoCA in the Spring. She has recently been commissioned to create a permanent site-specific installation at Congregation Magen David of Manhattan.
