YIN YI

CV

Yin Yi, originally from Chengdu, Sichuan, is a distinguished fashion design graduate from Kingston University London, holding both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in her respective field of study. Her design practice has garnered international recognition through online Vogue exhibitions, while her piece Maire Claire has earned a place in a special exhibition commemorating the fifth anniversary of emerging design in Hungary.

In 2019, Yin Yi transitioned her focus towards pure painting, delving into mediums like oil paint, acrylics, crayons, and mixed media. Yet, her choice of artistic tools is not limited to a traditional arrangement. Alternatively, she seamlessly incorporates everyday objects, such as toothbrushes and makeup sponges, into her artmaking process.

Yin Yi’s paintings retain essential elements of her early design style, unfurling in a diary-like narrative. They serve as a canvas for her contemplations on the interplay between life, emotion, and memory. Through her nuanced introspections, the artist incorporates various objects and scenes from daily life into her artworks. From a visual standpoint, these images serve as objective affirmations of Yin Yi’s own innermost life experiences. As these images find their position on the canvas, they morph into meaningful embodiments of vulnerable events she is painstakingly recording and memorializing. The intrinsic nature of such depicted objects gradually flattens over time along a two-dimensional plane, or, perhaps even a state of chaos. However, the vibrancy of each object remains undiminished, despite the reduction in depth. This method of “blurred minimalism” becomes the primary conduit through which one engages with Yin Yi’s painting.
