THE EXHIBITION
THE BREAKTHROUGH
JULY 11 - AUGUST 13
Crossing Art proudly presents "The Breakthrough," a retrospective exhibition featuring acclaimed Korean multimedia artist Kim Young-mi, running from July 11 to August 13, 2024. Opening with a reception on July 11 from 6-8 PM at our Chelsea gallery (559 W 23rd St, New York, NY), this showcase offers a comprehensive view of Kim's artistic evolution and her latest creative endeavors. Kim Young-mi's art is characterized by her masterful use of color and form, exploring human emotions and relationships. Her paintings often appear in pairs or groups, reflecting her focus on human connections, with a unique style involving deliberate deconstruction of the human form and abstract realism that reveals stark truths about human nature.
A striking feature of Kim's work is the ambiguous communication among her figures, enhanced by her use of monochromatic tones and bold complementary colors, creating visual tension that is both grotesque and spiritually resonant. Kim's approach, honed through solid drawing techniques, confronts contemporary human realities with compassion and clarity. Her subjects coexist within her canvases, symbolizing the complex interplay of emotions and transforming life struggles into poignant anthropomorphic narratives. This exhibition showcases Kim Young-mi's ability to capture the essence of contemporary human existence while challenging viewers to engage with the profound emotional landscapes she creates, inviting us to explore the depths of our own emotions and relationships in a visually arresting and emotionally resonant manner.
